Today, on September 11, 2019, a school action was held in Guria for the children of prisoners and former-prisoners within the project of the "Support Program for former-Prisoners, Families of Prisoners and Probationers". The event, organized by the Guria Youth Resource Center, was hosted by the Central Library of Ozurgeti Municipality. Here the teenagers learned about the educational resources available to them and were introduced with the English language library and the children's educational/cognitive corner.
In the framework of the school event, the children of prisoners and former prisoners were given items needed for the new school year: bags, notebooks, pencils. This is an incomplete list of items which were given to the adults who attended the event at the Central Library of Ozurgeti Municipality. In addition, the head of the library, Mrs. Lika Bakanidze, handed over memorable symbolic gifts to the children. Huge thanks to Ms. Lika for the warm hospitality.
The school action was held for the second time within the framework of the project for strengthening former prisoners. Socially vulnerable families benefiting from the program were selected for the action. Total number of participants in the school event - 20 beneficiaries. The event was organized within the framework of the Support Program for former-Prisoners, Families of Prisoners and Probationers, which is implemented by the Institute of Democracy together with partner organizations in Adjara, Guria, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and Imereti with EU financial support. The partner implementing the program in Guria is Guria Youth Resource Center. Activities envisaged by the project include: legal aid for former prisoners, family members of prisoners and probationers, strengthening professional skills, promotion of education and employment, establishment of family business (small enterprise), medical assistance and active participation in various cultural and educational events.
